The emergence of digital broadcasting throughout Europe and most noticeably in the UK, is causing a revolution. The plethora of free digital terrestrial, as well as the countless digital services that are now available via satellite means that if you don’t want to be left with just the handful of channels available through the soon to be outdated analog services, you need to upgrade to digital. And analog TV will be obsolete much sooner than most people think.

Whether it be free to air or satellite the choice is ultimately down to the customer, but in order to benefit from the ‘crystal clear’ reception and wider selection of channels, digital is definitely the way forward.

Hand in hand with the digital TV boom, is the rapid emergence of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) which is the digital transmission technology for radio, which ultimately will replace FM radio. In 2006, the sales of DAB receivers in Great Britain exceeded sales of VHF radios for the first time.

As digital television has become more popular, so has the need for qualified advice and information regarding TV aerial and satellite installation. TV aerials, satellite dishes and their installation are a key element for successful digital television viewing and DAB digital radio enjoyment. This is one of the primary areas which is often overlooked by many people when upgrading to digital television. It is pointless spending several thousand pounds on the latest Plasma or LCD television if the signal being put through the equipment is rubbish!

Correct installation of the TV aerial or the satellite dish, the receiver and wiring are essential. It is vital that the whole installation is approached with the professional experience and digital expertise required to ensure trouble-free digital television viewing. By ensuring that the aerial or the satellite dish is installed in the correct position and with the adequate fixings, a constant and high quality picture will be maintained.

Digital signals either perform perfectly or very poorly, this means that if your TV aerial is not up to the job it will freeze occasionally at best, or at worst, not work at all.

The other thing to be borne in mind is that some transmitters do not transmit digital signals at all. This means that you have to try and receive your signals from another transmitter. As such the aerial must be up to the task!

So with the new phenomena of digital aerials and the elements that have to be considered when fixing them as well as satellite dishes, how do you know that yours will be positioned accurately and competently to ensure quality digital TV viewing ?

Good aerial installation companies should already have a proven track record, supported by companies that have aerials and satellite systems installed regularly for their clients. They should be members of the quality governing body, CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries). This article is written by Steven Cole, director for www.aerialsandsatellites.com one of the premier TV aerial and satellite installers for London and Surrey.

Satellite TV ‘What’?

So, what is a satellite TV?

It’s a complicated question. In short, a satellite TV system is a wireless system delivering television programming directly to an end user. The whole system you can see in your home, a satellite dish, satellite decoder, and a remote.

The small satellite dish, about 18 to 24 inches in circumference, is installed outside your house; with the satellite decoder linked to your TV. Television and satellite TV stations transmit programming via a digital signal (satellite TV signals).

Satellite TV ‘Who’?

Two main providers of satellite TV in United States are Direct TV satellite TV and Dish Network satellite TV. Both satellite TV companies are promoting hard with their free satellite TV deals all over the country.

Nowadays, satellite TV business is turning into a huge success, where satellite TV became the fastest selling consumer electronics product ever to enter the market.

Why is satellite TV so success? The short answer: pay LESS, get MORE!

Benefit 1: Amazing Savings. Benefit 2: Varieties, varieties, and varieties! Benefit 3: Quality customer service. Benefit 4: Choose your own satellite TV program! Benefit 5: Instant! Easy! Convenient!

More details are found here: http://www.satellitetvissue.com/benefits.htm

Topnotch picture quality, superior value and plenty of programming, if you want all these, digital satellite TV system are definitely your choice.

So, how satellite TV works?

To make things simple, this is what happens in your satellite TV system. Satellite TV broadcast stations, for example Dish Network or DirecTV satellite TV, use a powerful satellite antenna to transmit digital waves to the surrounding area.

Satellite TV viewers can receive the signal with a smaller satellite antenna. The digital signals used to broadcast television emit signals from the broadcast satellite antenna in a straight line.

To receive these signals, the satellite dish has to be in the direct line of sight of the antenna. Blockages such like trees or buildings in between would not cause any problems on the digital waves.

Is satellite TV suitable for you?

For United States, I can say that satellite TV is the right choice for 95% of the citizens. The figure would goes higher with current satellite TV market condition, with Dish Network and DirecTV offering free satellite TV deals all year long.

Compare satellite TV deals to cable TV! Either free satellite TV from DirecTV or Dish Network offers you more satellite TV program choicesup to nearly 300 channels! With current free satellite TV deals, you can even have your “own” satellite TV station with the satellite TV pay-per-view deals. This is different from normal cable TV, where you are forced to purchase whatever system your region offers and pay whatever price it offers. Direct TV and Dish Network offer you this advantage.

Cable TV users, ATTENTION! i am not going to say this twice!

If you are looking for your next home entertainment system, take time to discover DirecTV and Dish Network promotion in our site, you will love them. For cable TV subscriber, I am sure you will be make a switch very soon when you check out these free satellite TV deals!

Check it yourself, browse those Free satellite TV offers from Direct TV and Dish Network satellite TV systems, check those satellite TV benefits in details and you will know what am I talking about. Pay less, and have more with free satellite TV system from Direct TV or Dish Network!

by: John Cook

It has been a year since I decided to test and review digital scouting cameras. Through doing these tests I’d hoped to give hunters some good information that would help them as they shopped for a digital scouting camera of their own. I think I have accomplished this and fortunately for me, I’ve had a lot of fun doing the tests.

I’m not sure exactly how many pictures I’ve taken but it is over 10,000. I received the first bobcat picture in the last batch and have yet to get a picture of a coyote, but sooner or later I’ll get one. It’s still exciting to get each group of pictures.

So far I have used eleven digital scouting cameras and am currently trying to decide which one I will try next. There are still plenty to choose from.

What have I learned over the past year?

For the most part you get what you pay for. Although there are some expensive cameras in the $300 plus range that aren’t much better than the cheaper ones there aren’t any in the under $200 range that come close to those in the $400 plus range.

You can’t beat a real digital camera for good picture quality. There are some hunters out there that do not care an ounce about picture quality but there is a difference. The higher mega pixel scouting cameras that have come out are an improvement over their predecessors but their prices are higher and they do not match the picture quality.

If the possibility of your camera being stolen is a factor you have a tough decision to make. The cheaper cameras are lacking in their ability to be locked to a tree whereas the better cameras come with much more secure locking capabilities. This makes for a tough decision. Buy a cheap scouting camera that is easy to steal or buy a more expensive one that is harder to steal. Whatever you do, don’t buy an expensive one that does not have good locking capabilities.

The latest is an infrared model and I’m not completely sold on it although it is still early in my testing. I’m not sure about the pink black and white (can this be) pictures, I’ve been somewhat spoiled by good quality nighttime pictures. I’m not convinced that these cameras are less susceptible to thievery either. An intruder would definitely see the flash but the red IR lights are very noticeable as well and they stay lit for a few seconds. I’m thinking a flash could possibly be mistaken for lightening whereas the red IR lights are a real eye catcher. As far as your digital scouting camera being stolen the IR versus flash may be a wash. The real advantage with the IR may be the distance issue.

For me batteries are a difference maker. The cameras I have that use AA rechargeable batteries and/or get six months plus from a single 9-volt battery are head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd. One of the major advantages of digital scouting cameras is how cheap they are to operate as compared to 35mm models. If you are buying a lot of batteries the advantage of a digital camera is lessened somewhat and more importantly it is a pain in the rear end.

In 2006 I’ll continue to purchase and test digital scouting cameras, have the enjoyment of viewing another 10,000 pictures and hopefully help the hunting community in the process.

You can read all of the digital scouting camera reviews at www.whitetaildeer-management-and-hunting.com.

Digital Videos (DV) capture images on CCD – Charge Coupled Devices but store them in a high-quality, endlessly reproducible, easily edited, digital format. Currently the most commonly device for capturing videos is the Digital Camcorder.

The quality of the digital video is far superior to the analog counterpart. The images are sharper and the color is richer and more accurate, at least twice as good as the older VHS and almost identical to broadcast quality video as DV uses component color sampling to hold thrice the color information as a conventional analog VHS and S-VHS video.

Time Base Correction stabilizes the picture thereby virtually eliminating video jitters. Error Correction fills in missing video data and provides seamless, professional-looking video.

In a digital camcorder one can instantly change between video capture or playback mode without disturbing any of the other elements and can instantly review the quality of the captured video.

Editing video is greatly simplified because the video can be transferred directly from the camcorder to the computer without conversion using what is called as Firewire connection. It can then be digitally edited on-line and again copied back to a digital tape. Not only it is quick and easy, there is no loss of image quality as there is in the analog world while copying and transferring. In fact, copies of digital videos and copies of copies are still as sharp as the original. Once stored on the computer, you can also easily send short clips as e-mail attachments or post them on Web sites.

Digital videos have audio that’s CD quality, presently the best rated.

There is a convergence between digital still cameras and digital camcorders. Many of the new digital still cameras can capture short video segments and similarly camcorders can also capture digital stills.

DV cameras are smaller than other camera of other formats, with some even slipping into a shirt pocket. DV camcorders store upto ninety minutes of digital video on small DV cartridges, which are a bit expensive. Another feature of these DV’s is that images can be stored not only on digital videocassettes but also on MultiMediaCards known as Flash Cards and the images can be transferred between the two easily.

In its digital mode it stores in excess of 700 still images at 640 x 480 resolution in JPEG format in either of two quality modes. High Resolution mode will store approximately 60 printable images and Standard mode will store 105 images appropriate for email attachments. There are also zoom facilities available, which are normally 10x optical zoom and 40x digital zoom and are backed with an image stabilization system.

Downloading Podcast News

With the rise of podcasting, many individuals and organizations are finding that podcasting is a great way to distribute information, from music and comedy shows to talk shows, even podcast news. CNET is one of the groups that is distributing a news podcast. CNET, being an online technology site, naturally found a niche distributing a tech news related podcast. CNET’s recent podcasts covered such topics as viruses that attack cell phones, problems with Google’s software, China’s web restrictions and the “Great Firewall of China”, and the FTC’s attack on spyware. These news items were distributed in a sound file called an mp3 file that is downloadable to a listener’s computer for listening whenever they wish.

While these files were available straight from CNET’s site, the majority of them are shared through the use of an RSS file. An RSS file is a small piece of XML coding that is downloadable by programs designed to read it. These programs are called podcast clients, and the user can input the address of the RSS files that hold the information on the feed. The feed will contain links to the media files of the podcast, and will download the new updates automatically.

More sites than CNET are finding that podcast news is an expoitable technology. The British Broadcasting Corporation podcasts some of it’s programs, as well as the US radio network NPR. The NPR, because its work is created by a variety of different groups, treats podcasts differently from show to show. The NPR show “This American Life” distributes a podcast of the show through a site called audible.com, which allows feed listeners to subscribe to the feed for a small fee and download the show . The NPR Hourly News show, on the other hand, shares a short 5 minute broadcast that summarizes the news for free. Since the NPR is taking a radio show and converting it into a file that is downloadable by the user, little is lost in the translation. The sound is designed to convey the entire story, and so podcast subscribers are able to treate the podcast as nothing more than TIVO for the radio. ABC’s podcast of the news show Nightline, on the other hand, is simply the sound track from the television show. This has been one of the criticisms of the Nightline podcast, because by merely stripping the sound from what is designed as a television show, much information is not given to the users. Listeners have problems telling who is who because they miss the visual cues that were supposed to be there, and there is no truly easy way to convert the shows.

For this reason, some news shows have been moving from audio podcasts to video ones. They can take the video information directly from the show that is broadcast, lower the visual resolution to shrink the file, and distribute it online as a podcast.

By: Beverly Kane

There are many different kinds of mini digital cameras available. The world’s smallest digital camera, which has been around for a number of years now, is the Smart mini digital camera. It’s ultra-compact, multifunctional, and smaller than a credit card. But this mini digital camera takes jaw-dropping digital photos and can even double as a webcam because of its built-in personal computer camera functions.

The Smart mini digital camera comes loaded with 16MB of built-in ROM, allowing you to store up to 20 pictures. Downloading the photos to your computer is easy, simply connect it to your pc with the USB cables that come with it nd use the included software package. The software also has editing capability, allowing you to crop pictures and make any desired color adjustments.

In additon, it’s 352×288 pixel screen allows you to use it as a webcam to communicate with friends. This mini digital camera is so compact; it will even fit on your key ring. And it comes complete with its own key ring attachment and leather pouch. It also has compatibility with Microsoft operating systems from Windows 98 forwards.

The mini digital camera includes an LCD display, letting you know just how many pictures you have taken in the still photo mode, or telling you the amount of ROM available in continuous mode. The display also tells you which function is currently activated. Change the shooting mode of the camera with the touch of the button; choose between high resolution and low resolution. Do you want to be in your own photographs? The Smart mini digital camera also has an auto-shoot mode.

Casio also has two mini digital cameras, the EXZ55 and the EXTRA-S100. While they are more expensive and slightly larger than the Smart mini digital camera, they do take higher-quality photographs. The Smart mini digital camera is best used as a webcam. The EXZ55 mini digital camera is 87 millimeters wide by 58 millimeters high by 22.5 millimeters deep. Or 3.45 inches wide by 2.23 inches wide by 0.89 inches wide. This is the size of a credit card, but slightly thicker. The EX-S100 is smaller, measuring 88 millimeters wide by 57 millimeters high by 16.7 millimeters deep. Or 3.46 inches by 2.24 inches by 0.66 inches deep. The EXZ55 mini digital camera has five megapixels with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD display.

3D digital art has certainly come a long way from its obscure beginnings. Nowadays, you find it everywhere – in print, web and television advertisements, in movies, etc. But what exactly is digital art?

The technology of 3D digital art

3D Digital art is a very young field, and more research and formal training is needed before schools can offer it as a viable study. So far, 3D digital art software has managed to create impressive 3D images, but more functionality needs to be incorporated. Software developers are continuously working to delve into the vast potential of 3D digital media.

Many digital 3D artists are involved improving the application of 3D digital software’s light and shadow effects on objects. Most 3D artists also create straight from their imagination ‘surreal’ or impossible objects. Their output is often times seen in movies and on the Internet.

3D digital imaging is a long process. When you create one 3D digital face, it can literally take months – even with the help of software such as Corel Bryce 3D, Adobe Photoshop, Curious Labs Poser, Jasc PSP and other painting programs. The technique of ‘modeling’ is particularly hard to master. It takes months and sometimes years for the best digital artists to achieve ‘broadcast quality’ looks.

Spline control is another particularly complicated area of 3D digital imaging. Before going into such advanced techniques, digital art students must be well versed in the fundamentals of LightWave 3D, as well as basic modeling skills. They should be very good at selecting and modifying points and polygons, determining framing and motion paths, basic surfacing and image mapping.

Starting a career in the video game industry used to a difficult thing; there were very few options and very few schools that could teach the required cutting edge skills.

By Will Kalif

Starting a career in the video game industry used to a difficult thing; there were very few options and very few schools that could teach the required cutting edge skills. If you wanted to choose this path you had to be self taught. Today this dilemma has been turned upside down. You now have a plethora of schools to choose from and lots of programs and specialties to decide amongst. Here is some advice on what the industry has to offer and what you can do to prepare yourself.

The video game industry has changed over the past ten years. It has matured and is now a full-fledged industry. This means that there are plenty of opportunities to find a rewarding career without being a hot-shot game programmer. As a matter of fact, the days of the hot shot developer are pretty much over. In today’s world the creation of a state of the art video game now requires a dedicated team of employees with a wide range of skills and interests.

What does this mean for you? It means opportunity in a lot of different disciplines and it means that you have to specialize within a subgenre of the big picture of “Making Video Games”. But before you pack off and go to a video game school or dish out the dollars for an online school there are some things you should do and some things you need to know.

1. Learn the basic concepts of game design

Have an understanding of video games, how they’re played, and what they’re all about. You should have a feel for the game industry; know what games are out there, what styles of play they have, and how they handle the game playing experience. Chances are good that you already fulfill this requirement.

Have an understanding of the underlying principles of game design. There are several ways that you can do this. I recommend one or both of these methods to get you started in this:

Build Mods – Mods are modifications of existing games. Quake is a famous game for this approach. You use the mod builder software and you build levels or worlds that can be added right into the game itself. The Mod sub culture is very vibrant and you can find a lot of support and help. To gain even better experience that translates well into a corporate environment you should join a volunteer Mod development team. This gives you good teamwork experience and gives you insight on how a video game project is broken down into pieces. Get a free or inexpensive Game engine development suite and build your own games. You can build adequate and fun to play games on your own this way. I recommend you do this with the Genesis 3d Game development software. It is completely free.

2. Get familiar with some of the professions in the industry and the tools that are used.

There are a whole host of tools that game design teams use. And the tools you would use are dependent on what role you would play on the team. Here is an overview of some of the different jobs in the industry and what software tools they would use.

If you like drawing and painting with traditional tools you might want to consider being a concept artist. They do all their work with off computer art tools. They would conceptualize and draw the scenes and the creatures in a game.

If you think you might like computer designing worlds and scenes in a video game you should consider being a 2-dimensional artist. They create all the structures, textures and backgrounds in game worlds. Photoshop is the de-facto program for this job. If you can afford a copy of this program you will get a definite insight into this career path. If you cannot afford Photoshop you should consider getting Paint Shop Pro. It is less expensive and very similar to Photoshop and it will give you a good foundation into the world of 2-dimensional artwork.

If Characters and models are what you are enthusiastic about you should consider becoming a 3-Dimensional Model Artist. This type of artist is concerned with making the characters, monsters, creatures and objects that inhabit a video game world. In this area of game art the choice of software is not as straight-forward as in the 2d art. The most accepted software is 3D studio Max. Two other popular programs are Maya and SoftImage. If you are looking for a free 3d modeling tool that will get you started you may want to get Milkshape. It is a tool designed for the game Half-Life.

The concepts of modeling are universal so the skills will transfer from one tool to the other. You will just have to learn the specifics of the new tool which will be easy enough.

Animator – This is the person that makes the characters and objects in the game move. It is a very specific skill and it takes good understanding of animation to get things right. There are many software programs that are used for animation and they include Macromedia Flash, Alias/Wavefront, 3D Studio Max and Lightwave 3D.

Programmer – This is something that is a little more traditional when we think of video game making “Programming” and it is a very wide field that can find you doing almost anything in the video game making arena. A programmer could be called upon to do any number of things from managing a database to designing the artificial intelligence within a game or creating specialized software tools that other designers use to create the game.

Other Opportunities in Video game design – There are many other jobs in the video game industry ranging from Script and story writer to even network administrator or computer maintenance and repair technician.

Today there are many different career paths that can be taken into the video game industry. This requires you to specialize in a set of skills. Understanding what these different skills are and getting a head start now will increase your marketability in the very competitive video game industry.

An article about how Digital Art can be easy.

By: Kenneth C. Hoffman

Everybody who likes to take pictures would love to have some of them enlarged and framed for their walls. Its very presence would give you instant satisfaction and the confidence that you, do have an artistic bone in your body after all. A casual perusal of you snapshots, however, might lead you to believe that not one of these snapshots are good enough for the wall. Now, just for a moment, make believe that you could change anything you don’t like about a picture of yours and that you could match that image to the image in your mind. You can – with the help of a scanner and a photo enhancement program. Of course, if you have a digital camera, you don’t even need a scanner.

There are four basic levels of photo software. Freebee programs meant only to crop, change the color balance, and fix red eye in your pictures. A middle quality program uses a macro to change shapes, improve sharpness, and offer some filters for creating a few special effects, like crude oil paintings or black and white charcoal effects. The next step up often will cost $30.00 to $50.00, but will include all the basic tools you need to create a proud-to-display masterpiece. Micrografx (now Corel) Picture Publisher presents six sizes of paint brushes, an air brush, pastel chalks and colored pencils. You can change the size of your picture, crop it any way you want, and take advantage of dozens of filters which simulate real art textures like water color on parchment paper, palette knife paintings, etc. Turn white skies into blue skies with fleecy clouds, soften some of Grandma’s wrinkles or remove a garbage can from an otherwise perfect picture. A cloning tool permits the addition of outside elements, skin retouching, background cleaning and the filling in of empty spaces. A magic cropping knife can isolate a subject, move it onto another background and let you move the objects in your picture around at will, like decoppage, creating a whole new world of graphic manipulation.

The top of the line is Adobe Photoshop and its competitors. This program is considered professional software, costing $300 to $700. The basic tools are the same, but many more levels of manipulation are offered. The dozens of filter you used with Picture Publisher have multiplied but keep in mind that dozens of filters and effects can still be utilized by both programs through plug-in filter software. A two week course is recommended in order to learn how to use the Adobe program effectively while the Picture Publisher help boxes are considered sufficient instruction for most people.

Your finished artistic creations can be saved in computer albums against the time you need a nice graphic for decorating an article or for an artistic card.
